When was the last time you felt lost in a sea of crap you had to get done? If you are anything like me, then it was probably pretty recently.
The experience of being overwhelmed and feeling like there aren’t enough hours in the day is something I think we can all relate to. In fact, we’re collectively feeling it now more than ever.
Whether it is work, home, or other commitments, feeling squeezed in life takes a toll on both the body and mind. If you are tired of the overwhelm, then these easy steps are a must to bring you back to focused calm.
We all know time is precious. Mentally, if we feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day, it can create anxiety and self-doubt. The pressure makes our bodies more tired and distracted, less focused. If left unchecked, these things can hold us back from new opportunities, experiences, and even being happy.
Here are three simple strategies you can use that will bring more calm and clarity into your day-to-day life to create more focus and clarity
Your Focus Needs More Focus
Do you ever catch yourself trying to do 6 things at once? In our crazy fast paced lives, multitasking seems like an essential skill, but did you know it’s just a big fat lie??! Our brains can’t physically focus on more than one higher-level task at a time. It might feel like you are the master of multitasking, but instead of doing lots of things at once, your brain is switching between each task quickly. Every time it switches, the brain has to reset. This ends up costing us time. Even worse, we become less efficient, make more mistakes, and become less productive. Prioritizing and committing to doing one task at a time creates more focus. You will do better work in less time and have less stress while doing it.
Clarity is Key
I often tell clients that a broader perspective gives us the chance to see reality for what it truly is. Take a step back and find out where your time is really going. Want to know something scary? The average person now spends over 3.5 hours on their phone and almost 4 hours watching TV. Be honest and figure out where your time is truly going.
What Do You Really Want?
We all have set time aside for the tasks that need to get done, but what about the things that light you up? Take a moment to think about the things you actually enjoy. Maybe it is that part of your work life that is exciting or empowering. It could be time outside, with friends and family, a passion project. I’ve never met anyone who wanted less happiness in their life. When you know what you want it is easier to get what you want.
Seeing is Believing
Manifest the life you want. In the morning when you wake up, spend a moment imagining yourself moving through your day. Notice yourself getting things done with calm and focus. Whether at work or home, you can be prioritizing the things you choose to do. What would it feel like to take the time to be motivated and have fun? Making a habit of the positive creates a focused and clear path for the day so you can function at your very best.
